About me

Hi there, I'm Katie Cannon. I live in Florida with my husband, Kyle. Our life together often feels like we're being shot out of a Cannon. While exciting, the control freak in me is sometimes uncomfortable. Making our home is where I find reprieve.

This blog chronicles my adventures in making our house a home, and our seemingly vagabond lifestyle feel just a little more normal.

how it all began

learning to find joy in chaos

Like many people, I wasn’t feeling fulfilled in corporate life. I didn’t like the constant bureau-crazy that drove decision making – I needed action. Not  to mention, my “job” often kept Kyle and I from doing what we loved. So at the beginning of the pandemic, I bit the bullet and finally left my career in corporate America.

But I definitely looked back. I dabbled in freelance work for a bit, but found that wasn’t fun unless I was working on businesses related to my passion: horses. And I needed something to do with my hands, to keep me busy.

And so I started dabbling in making our home in Maryland. It started with re-organizing our cabinets, morphed into repainting our entire first floor, and then to designing a man cave for my husband.

This work became my reprieve. I was hooked. And it allowed me to keep my passion, horses, my passion.

When we bought our new home in Florida, I knew I could take on more and so while we were waiting to move, I measured, planned, diagramed and watched endless videos on DIY.

This blog is a record of my adventures, missteps, and successes as we turn our mostly-builder-grade Florida home into a custom build.
